Fryer Creek Agriturismo
In Italy, an Agriturismo is an Italian country home or farm open to receive guests, offering hospitality and a connection to the land. The word agriturismo is a combination of the Italian words agricoltura (agriculture) and turismo (tourism).
This very special property embodies that sustainable spirit, offering a modern, Sonoma take on a tradition rooted in the old country. A working farm, egg-laying chickens, beehives, and small fruit orchard produce fruit, vegetables, etc. for the owners’ San Francisco-based restaurant and pizzerias. Depending on the season and production, fresh products may be made available to guests for cooking and snacking.
The 2.2-acre retreat feels isolated yet lies in the heart of Sonoma, a five-minute drive or ten-minute bike ride to Sonoma Plaza. Located at the end of a small cul-de-sac, the lot spans both banks of Fryer Creek, and is lined with 200-year-old Oak trees populated by a fascinating variety of birds and wildlife.
An expansive rear deck with hot tub, lounge chairs, pergola, string lights and dining table is the perfect place to spend time with friends and family, or simply sit and watch nature do its thing, any time of day. A lighted Creekside path leads to a 325 square foot yoga/meditation deck situated in a wooded corner of the property and built around a majestic 200-year-old cork tree, allegedly planted by Sonoma’s founder, General Vallejo.
The property is landscaped with native grasses, lavender and echium. It features fountains, a badminton net, bocce court, firepit and numerous sitting areas. Decorated in a thoughtful, playful manner, with all new furniture and fixtures, the cozy, modern home sleeps up to eight people in three bedrooms (and three bathrooms) including a pull-out sofa bed in the living room and one in the rec room.
The main bedroom sports a king-sized bed appointed with luxurious linens, down comforter, and abundant pillows. It has a large closet and en-suite bathroom with a claw foot bathtub. A Creekside setting and sheer curtains catch the light to create a very sexy ambiance.
Bedroom number two features a brand new, queen-sized bed with the same linens, etc. as the main bedroom, while thoughtful décor and furnishings help the room transcend the sum of its parts.
On the north side of the house, just past the bocce court, bedroom number three (The Studio) is accessed through a semi-private, vine-covered courtyard. This bedroom has a queen-sized bed, a desk, and a kitchenette with its own Keurig coffeemaker. This zone is a private retreat of its own. The adjacent rec room features a foosball table, a ping-pong table, a TV and a sofa that can be flipped down into a bed.
Like to cook? The kitchen is anchored by a six burner Blue Star Range, and is well-stocked with restaurant grade pots, pans, and utensils. This, plus an array of grills on the deck and access to Sonoma’s incredible wealth of food products (not to mention FCF product when available) sets the stage for many happy cooking adventures- that is when not enjoying Sonoma Valley’s ample restaurant dining options.
**Please note this property is a working farm that grows and harvests fruits and veggies for the owner’s restaurants. Therefore, there are regular deliveries of supplies, visits from the owner and other services- beekeeper, arborists, etc. The restaurant’s driver will be there to pick up deliveries once or more per week, depending on the season. There is a full time farmer in the culinary gardens, Monday-Saturday 7-3 pm tending to the chickens, barn cats and gardens. There are 3 resident outdoor barn cats living on property. They play an important role in keeping the farm and property pest free. This property produces honey so you may encounter honeybees at work. If you have a bee allergy, this property may not be the best fit for you. **
